6th Annual Windsor RFC Vets Tournament
Saturday 24th September 2011
September is here again and so is the Windsor RFC Tournament Season. This really is the 6th year we’ve run our Vets Tournament – we miscounted last year ! 12 sides will be taking part again playing in 4 pools of 3 – so each side plays 2 pool games then proceeds on to semi-finals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each pool. Winners then play in finals for the Trophy, Plate and Shield giving all teams a minimum of 3 games with the finalists playing 4. Pool games start at 1330 with the finals scheduled for 1710. All games will be 15 minutes each way with rolling subs. Squad size is up to 25 35+ year olds.
Normal 15-a-side laws apply except there will be no kicking from hand outside the 22 apart from penalties.
The event will have a very different look this year with 6 new clubs participating and 6 who can’t keep away.
The 6 regulars are Basingstoke, Battersea Ironsides, Marlow, Old Plymothians and Mannamedians, Weybridge Vandals and, of course, Windsor.
The 6 newcomers are Ealing Evergreens, Esher Expendables, Overton, Reading Abbey, Richmond Heavies and Torbay Sharks.
A new name will appear on the Trophy again this year as all previous winners are, for one reason or another, unable to make it this time.
We very much look forward to welcoming all participants and to enjoying an afternoon of social rugby followed by much drinking of beer and general merriment !
